At last week’s (3 October 2024) meeting of the council’s Policy and Scrutiny Committee for Neighbourhoods and Regeneration, I highlighted the condition of Albany Road – particularly its southern end from its junction with Banner Lane to Worsley Road.

The northern end was resurfaced a few years ago, and now is scheduled for repair work. The southern end has not been resurfaced even though it scores lower with Island Roads’ condition index.

The northern end scored 12.23 in 2022 and 13.46 in 2023. The equivalents for the southern end are 11.83 in 2022, deteriorating to 10.21 in 2023.

The southern end shows clear signs of rutting and regularly has new potholes (I reported one only last week). Residents are puzzled that Island Roads only carry out small repairs and not resurfaced the whole length despite its obvious condition.

The way that the PFI contract works seems to mean that the road would need to drop below a score of 6 before proper resurfacing will take place.
