    The planning application for 203 homes at Acorn Farm is open again for public consultation after a readvertisement. This is due to revised plans being submitted and more information being provided about highways. The public consultation on the plans closes on 15 December 2023.

  • Council to get £13.6 million for cycling, walking and bus route improvements

    The following is adapted from an Isle of Wight Council press release… ______ The Isle of Wight Council is set to receive more than £13.6 million in Levelling Up money from the government. It will be used to enhance travel between Ryde and Yarmouth by improving cycling, walking and bus routes while also making accessibility improvements.   • Survey asks what you think of waste and recycling service

    The following is adapted from an Isle of Wight council press release… ______ Every year the council asks residents for their views and ideas on how the Island can recycle more and reduce its waste. The authority is responsible for the collection, treatment, recycling and disposal of household recyclables and waste on the Island. This is delivered through a contract with its waste provider. The online consultation runs until midnight on Friday 12 January 2024. Paper versions are available on request by emailing waste.contract@iow.gov.uk or calling (01983) 823777.   • College consults on plans for new facilities

    Isle of Wight College is consulting, via planning consultants Vail Williams, on plans for new facilities. The following is taken from information provided by Vail Williams… ______ The proposed development is for the demolition of existing 1950s College buildings and replacing them with a modern consolidated facility to accommodate programmes for Electrical Installation, Travel & Tourism, Public Services, Performing Arts, Hospitality and Sports and Fitness departments. The new facility building will bring a focus to the campus and provide a main entrance, ‘Welcome Hub’ and dining refectory forming the heart of the site.   • Flood funding available for Island homes and businesses

    The following is taken from information publicised by Isle of Wight Council… ____ Island homes and businesses directly affected by the recent floods are now able to apply for UK Government funded support. The Isle of Wight Council is administering a package of support, including a Community Recovery Grant of £500 per household to help with immediate costs. Full details including how affected residents can apply will be available on a dedicated webpage on the council’s website.   • Parkhurst Road flooding update

    Following my request to Island Roads, they have told me their District Steward and Drainage Engineer investigated the cause of the flooding by the bus stop opposite the hospital. They followed the watercourse to what appears to be a blocked outfall on the prison site. The Drainage Engineer has spoken with the prison site manager who advised that they were aware of the issue and had instructed a drainage contractor to attend, but they had insufficient equipment to rectify the issue so should be re-attending shortly to deal with the blockage.
